President Buhari Appointed Me As Chief Of Army Staff As A Reward Of My Father’s Love Towards Him – Buratai

The immediate chief of army staff (COAS) Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai (rtd), has spoken about the circumstances that prompted President Buhari to appoint him as the army chief.

Buratai said his emergence as the chief of army staff was linked to his late father’s loyalty to Buhari, The Sun reported.

He said:

“My father was an ardent lover of the President and my appointment as COAS, therefore, was a price or reward for that gesture by the president.”
The former military commander made the disclosure at a dinner organized for him by members of 29th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

Buratai said he never believed he would achieve the dream of becoming the chief of army staff.

According to him, the ambition of becoming the army chief became a reality when the president met him at Njemena in Chad and felt he was the right person to be appointed COAS.

He thanked Buhari for the privileged of allowing him to serve as the chief of army staff.

The former army chief also spoke about his recent appointment as Ambassador-designat.

He promised to continue to do the country proud and project its image in good light wherever he is deployed to.

Meanwhile, Tukur Buratai has refused to respond to criticism following his ambassadorial appointment from President Muhammadu Buhari.

He has kept mute calls from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a probe on him, Daily Trust reports.

However, in his chat with journalists on Saturday, February 6, the former Nigerian Army chief said he is not a politician, and thus cannot give any reply to the PDP.
