Covid-19: 1,270 New Cases Recorded

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday announced 1,270 new coronavirus, 12 deaths and 1,083 recoveries as the second wave of the infection continues to sweep across the country.

According to the public health agency’s tweet, the new infections were detected in 22 states – Lagos-435, FCT-234, Oyo-103, Plateau-86, Rivers-71, Enugu-51, Nasarawa-41, Delta-39, Edo-39, Osun-33, Niger-31, Sokoto-23, Ondo-16, Taraba-13, Ebonyi-12, Kano-10, Abia-9, Bayelsa-8, Bauchi-7, Imo-5, Katsina-3 and Gombe-1.

Lagos led with 435 new cases. The commercial city is Nigeria’s coronavirus epicentre with a total of over 36,000 confirmed cases and about 256 deaths.

The 1,270 new cases on Tuesday has now pushed the total number of infections in the country to 102,601.

Meanwhile, the spike in infections is also feeding through into fatalities. Twelve people died from the disease on Monday, taking the death toll to 1,373 in total.

The government has blamed the increasing deaths on late referral of COVID-19 patients to treatment centres.

Meanwhile, of the 102,601 cases so far, there are 81,574 recovered patients, having discharged 1,083 successfully treated persons.

As at Monday, Nigeria recorded a total of 1,033,858 COVID-19 tests that has been carried out so far.
