ENUGU—Three people are now being quizzed by the police for allegedly vandalising the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, stations at Ariara and Ekenna in Abia State.
The Ekenna Distribution Station at Ariara in Aba was vandalised by two persons (names withheld) while another suspect was arrested for allegedly vandalising the Civil Defence Distribution substation in Umuahia, Abia State.
A statement signed by the Head, Public Communications of the EEDC, Emeka Eze said that the vandalism at the Ekenna Distribution Substation occurred some few days after the Civil Defence Substation in Umuahia was vandalised.
Eze stated that the vandal at Umuahia was caught while burning off the insulator on the vandalised armoured cable, and consequently handed over to the police for further interrogation and possible prosecution, just as the two suspects at Ariaria were handed over to the police for possible prosecution.
The statement read in part, ”At a time EEDC is promising its customers better service delivery in the new year, a few elements in our society are bent on frustrating this commitment, thereby subjecting the larger members of the public to black-out and other inconveniencies; while millions of Naira is being spent replacing the vandalised equipment.”
