CELEB OF THE DAY – Joke Silva Jacobs

Veteran Nollywood actress cum director, Ajoke Silva Jacobs (popularly known as Joke Silva) was born on the 29th of September, 1961 and hails from Isale-Eko in Lagos state. She has a degree in English Language from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka and also studied drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She stars in both English and Yoruba movies and has been acting since the early 80’s. She became a household name after she starred in a TV soap opera titled ‘Second Chance’. She is seen as an icon and a role model to so many young actors and actresses in the Nollywood industry. Ajoke Silva has been awarded and nominated severally. She won the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2nd Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2006 and also won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2008. She is also one of the Judges on the MTN Project Fame music talent TV reality show.

She is happily married to veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs. They got married in 1985 and they have two children together.
